La Vinotière in Le Conquet
During my long weekend in Brittany (Bretagne) I stayed two nights at the 3-star hotel La Vinotière in Le Conquet, a small fishing village located 25 min by car fr Brest.
I had done lots of research before booking and what made me choose this hotel was the fact that it was in a stone house featuring an original stone staircase, it’s size, only 10 rooms which makes it more of a boutique-hotel, intime and personal, the beautiful decorated rooms and the location, just in the center of the village Le Conquet.
Besides, if you are planning to visit the lighthouses Kermorvan, Petit Minou and Saint-Mathieu, the fishing port Le Conquet is perfect out of a strategic point of view since its located between all three of them.
The tastefully restored hotel, La Vinotière, was originally a 16th century stone house which was renovated in 2007. The rooms have all been named after the lighthouses in the area. Even the name of the hotel itself is named after a lighthouse, La Vinotière.
At my arrival I was welcomed by the owner, Joëlle, and was shown to my room, La Val Belle. Very light, spacious, big comfortable bed, ensuite bathroom with a bathtub. I can ensure you the bathtub was well used by me after my early sunrise or late evening shootings. There is nothing better than spoil oneself with a relaxing warm bath. There is also a jacquzzi in the hotel, for 5€ per person you get to have it for 30 minutes, and enjoy 35 degrees hot bubbling water.
I found the hotel to be very cozy and rustic chic with its sea-oriented interior decoration. You could feel Bretagne in the hotel. A plus was the wooden shutters in my room, which I used in the afternoons for my nap to lock out the light. Beeing addicted to sunrise and sunset photography makes you have a very particular lifestyle, early morning work, short nap and some work and then off to shoot again.
The breakfast was served between 08-10 every morning, which was perfect for me after an early sunrise shooting of the lighthouses. The breakfast area is just on the opposite side of the lounge with its fireplace. A freshly baked croissant from the nearby bakery (boulangerie Bian, btw, do go there for their delicious kouign amann, best I’ve ever had!!), tea from L’îlot thé (organic brand fr Bretagne), jams also from a local brand with 60% fruit which is pretty rare nowadays where the ratio between sugar and fruit is the opposite. You also get yoghurt fr St Malo, fromage frais, a must to try when in Bretagne! The breakfast was excellent and of good quality, I paid 10€ as it wasn’t included in the price of the room.
If you are looking for an authentic experience with a modern touch in a charming location (cobble stone street), with friendly staff, I can truly recommend this gem.
