Palazzo Guadagni in Florence – rooftop view fr the window at the room where I stayed
Palazzo Guadagni in Florence is a beautiful hotel in Renaissance style situated in an 16th century historical building at Piazza Santo Spirito.
After my trip to Tuscany I returned to Florence, the capital of Tuscany and center of Italian Renaissance, to spend a last day before returning to Paris. I had the opportunity to stay at the hotel Palazzo Guadagni located in the Oltrarno neighbourhood that until then been unfamiliar to me. It turned out to be a lovely area with narrow streets with many artisans workshops, antique shops but also home to many impressive monuments, beautiful gardens and museums.
An ancient Florentine residence
The check-in went swiftly, the entrance is very discrete, at least it’s not easy to tell you are entering a hotel it feels like you are entering a secret palace. I was warmly greeted and shown to my beautiful and spacious room, decorated with antique furnitures, frescos on the ceiling, a large window giving lots of light to the room, it felt like staying in an ancient Florentine residence with lots of charm. I loved it. Throughout the window at my room I had a stunning view over the terracotta rooftops, I slept with the window open and in the morning I woke up by the birds singing outside…. There was also a spacious bathroom connected to my room, with a bathtub and faucet in ancient style and beatiful painted floor tiles.
Carefully restored and tastefully decorated rooms
There are 14 rooms in total at Hotel Palazzo Guadagni making it a charming and intime boutique hotel, the rooms have all been carefully restored an are all tastefully decorated in traditional style with antique furnitures and have modern amentities and there is wifi throughout the entire hotel area. The rooftopgarden (loggia) faces the Piazza Santo Spirito where you can see the Basilica is a cozy terrace to sit and spend time at, enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening…and if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, take a moment and relax in this loggia, appreciate its tranquility and its breathtaking panoramic view.
An elaborate breakfast buffet is served ever morning in a beautiful dining room. The breakfast buffet includes various hot beverages such as coffee, tea and hot chocolate but also juice, fresh baked bread, Italian pastries, jams, boiled egges, fresh fruits, Italian yoghurt…You could either enjoy the breakfast in the living room or put everything you wanted on a silver platter and have it brought out to the loggia.
Travel back in time
I had to leave right after the breakfast as I had an early flight back to Paris. The morning staff called for a taxi that showed up within 5 minutes and after a short ride of only 20 minutes we arrived to the airport. Wish I could have stayed longer, had an absolutely memorable stay at Palazzo Guadagni. Passionated about history it truly felt travelling back in time as the antique furnitures and interior added so much character to the hotel. The staff were adorable, very friendly, attentive and service-minded. If you are looking for an authentic Florentine experience I can truly recommend a stay at Hotel Palazzo Guadagni.
