For photographers and videographers, a monitor is where colour, detail and the final stage of the creative process take place. Designed for both users, the BenQ Creative Pro PD2770U offers highly accurate colour reproduction across Adobe RGB, DCI-P3 and Rec.709. It also features a built-in calibrator with hardware calibration to ensure consistent results over time and a 4K display that brings greater clarity and precision to retouching, colour grading and editing. I have had the PD2770U for a few weeks now, and I am delighted to finally share my experience of using this new monitor from BenQ!

Technical characteristics

Before moving on to my experience with this monitor, let’s first take a look at its technical specifications. The BenQ Creative Pro PD2770U is a 27-inch 4K IPS monitor with a 3840 × 2160 resolution, 400 nits brightness, HDR10 and HLG support, and 1.07 billion colours, so on paper it already feels very well suited to both photography and video work. What stands out to me most is how clearly it has been built for colour-critical workflows: it covers 99% Adobe RGB, 99% DCI-P3, and 100% Rec.709, comes factory-calibrated to Delta E ≤1.5, and includes a built-in calibrator with hardware calibration to help keep colour accurate and consistent over time.

The BenQ Creative Pro PD2770U has a nano matte black panel to reduce reflections

I appreciate some of the more practical features such as the Nano Matte Black panel that helps reduce reflections in a very effective way. I also like the Hotkey Puck G3 which is a compact, round controller with a dark matte finish, a central dial, and clearly arranged shortcut buttons. It is very convenient: the three customizable keys can be assigned to things like colour mode, and the rotating dial lets me quickly adjust brightness, contrast, without digging through menus. For me, it is one of those small details that makes the workflow feel faster, smoother, and much more intuitive.

Design & first impressions

I really like the clean and simple design of the BenQ Creative Pro PD2770U. Its muted dark grey finish blends in beautifully with my bright, minimalist workspace. The stand feels solid and stable, and all the adjustments (height, tilt, swivel and rotation) are smooth and easy to use, which makes it easy to get the screen into the right position for long editing sessions. Another detail I appreciated straight away is the magnetic shading hood, which reduces distractions from surrounding light. I have had a shading hood on my previous BenQ monitors as well, but I always struggled to set them up as the hood came in several separate parts. Having the shading hood in one piece with a magnetic touch to attach onto the monitor is a great upgrade because I now use it almost all the time with ease.

The one piece magnetic shading hood is easy to attach and remove

The BenQ Creative Pro PD2770U covers 99% Adobe RGB, which is a real advantage for photographers who also print their work, and it also offers 100% Rec.709 and 99% DCI-P3 coverage. I’m often asked which colour space to use for video, and for me it always comes down to the final destination. For videos that will be watched in browsers or uploaded to platforms like YouTube, Rec.709 is usually the right choice. But if the content is intended for wide-gamut screens, particularly newer phones, tablets, or Apple devices that support Display P3, then DCI-P3 becomes a relevant option.

Having used several BenQ monitors over the years, one thing I genuinely value is that the boxes have become slimmer and easier to handle. This makes the whole unboxing process much simpler. The packaging really deserves a mention. Everything feels well thought out and well protected, and the guidelines are clear and easy to follow. From unboxing to setup, everything felt intuitive and, within a few minutes. The monitor was ready to become part of my daily workflow.

Connectivity

The BenQ Creative Pro PD2770U is clearly designed with a creative workflow in mind. With USB-C, two HDMI 2.0 ports and a DisplayPort 1.4, it is easy to connect and switch between several devices without creating a tangled mess of cables. The USB-C port is one of the most useful features for me, as it carries video, data and up to 96 W of power through a single cable, making everything much cleaner and simpler on the desk.

In-built calibration

Now let’s talk about one of its main features, which is also a first for the BenQ Creative Pro series: its built-in calibrator. One of the biggest advantages here is that, because the calibrator is integrated into the monitor itself, you do not need to buy a separate probe. As someone who works with both photography and video, I really value having a monitor that can maintain accurate colour over time without adding extra steps or equipment to my workflow. The PD2770U combines a built-in calibrator with hardware calibration, meaning colour adjustments are made directly on the monitor rather than relying solely on software profiles. The monitor has light-adaptive and auto-scheduled calibration, which I find especially reassuring for long-term use because it helps maintain consistent colour performance over time. This is one of the monitor’s most practical strengths for me, as it makes colour management feel more seamless and reliable, and much better suited to a professional creative workflow. I like the fact that you no longer need to calibrate the monitor yourself and easily schedule this to take place at night, for example, when you’re not using the monitor. Even though the PD2770U is equipped with a built-in calibrator you can still use an external probe to perform the calibration.

Another feature is the DMS Local, BenQ’s software for centralized monitor management, allowing one computer to manage multiple compatible monitors over a local network. On the PD2770U, it can be used to sync settings across screens and even trigger or schedule color calibration remotely, which is especially useful in a studio or team setup where consistency matters across several workstations.

The BenQ Creative Pro PD2770U comes with BenQ’s own calibration software, The Palette Master Ultimate (soon AQCOLOR Pilot). The benefit of BenQ’s calibration software is that it makes colour management more practical. It helps you calibrate faster, preview results in real time, save custom ICC profiles, and keep the monitor accurate over time.

Conclusion

Having spent some time with the BenQ Creative Pro PD2770U, I would say that it is a monitor designed with creative work in mind. As someone who works with photography and video, I appreciate the colour accuracy and sharpness of the display, as well as how practical it is in everyday use. Everything about it feels made to support a more efficient and reliable workflow, from the easy unboxing experience and thoughtful design to the excellent connectivity and built-in calibration.

What I personally enjoyed most is how naturally it fits into a hybrid way of working. I can move seamlessly from retouching photographs to editing video without compromising on quality in either area. The 4K resolution provides the clarity I need for detailed work. And the wide colour coverage and built-in calibration ensure that what I see on screen is accurate and consistent. Over time, this kind of reliability becomes invaluable, particularly when precision is paramount.

In my opinion, the PD2770U is an excellent choice for photographers, videographers, graphic designers, illustrators and anyone else who needs accurate colour and a monitor that can adapt to different creative workflows. It is particularly well suited to creators who work with both photos and videos and want one monitor that can handle both tasks with confidence. If your work depends on attention to detail, colour consistency and a smooth editing experience, this monitor can genuinely support and elevate your workflow. The integrated calibration and the one-piece magnifying shading hood are an added bonus.
