I barely print any of my photos but when SAAL Digital recently asked if I was interested trying one of their wall decors I saw it as a great opportunity to finally have one of my works hanging on my wall.

Choice of material

Once I had accepted SAAL Digitals offer it didn’t take long until I was reminded WHY I had for so long hesitated to print my photos. It’s the fact that you have to make quite many choices and go through different steps in order to have your photo printed. First out, the many choices of materials! As this was my very first time and I had completely no idea how the different materials were like I decided to order a sample set. The sample set is 15€ and redeemed when you make your order, in other words free.
After a thorough consideration I finally decided to opt for Gallery Print.
What characterize Gallery Print is that the photo is printed directly on acrylic glass and supporter with an extra 3 mm Alu-Dibond panel. With this choice of material you can have either a Glossy or a Matte finish.

Calibration and ICC profiles

There are two very important things you need to consider in order to have your print matching the digital version. First, calibrate your screen in order to have the colors displayed accurately. Secondly, make sure to install the ICC profiles from SAAL Digital that you can find here. These are important as you will be able to see in Lightroom or Photoshop how the the actual print will look like of the photo. At this point you will be able to make some finer adjustments if you are not pleased with the softproof before having your photo printed.

SAAL Digital Software

Once you have decided what material you wish to have your photo printed on you have to download and install a software called SAAL Design from SAAL Digital on your computer. The steps are very intuitive and easy to follow.

Final print

From the moment I clicked on “order” till I had my Gallery Print delivered to my door it had taken a bit more than a week.
It was extremely well packed and I was quite excited to see the result. My first reaction was: Why had I not done this before?? I completely loved the result! The colors were crisp, clear and vibrant and the print matched perfectly the digital photo in my screen. I couldn’t have been more than satisfied. I was also very happy of the choice of material, the acrylic glass with a glossy finish interacts harmoniously with the light and gives a very nice depth in the photo.

Conclusion

As this was the very first time I printed one of my photos I really didn’t know what to expect as result. I didn’t have any high expectations. It was not until I received the box with my gallery print and unwrapped it that I was positively surprised . I never imagined the high quality nor the natural and vibrant colors. The photo looked very much like it did in my screen.
The process was very smooth, the software is easy to use and the customer service quick in responding and shipping quite fast. So yes, if I complained about the fact that too many choices and steps deters me I must admit that with the final print in my hands it was totally worth it.
If you want to showcase your work and look for a high-end product for your Fine Art photo I’m sure you would be as satisfied as I am with SAAL Digitals Gallery Print.
