Rollei Cable Release for Nikon

As I’ve recently started with long exposure shootings, the 30 seconds max shutter speed in my Nikon D750 is not enough. First I bought Nikon‘s Remote Release Cord and used the timer in my iPhone. A solution, but not very practical and still you have to release the button on the remote.

Luckily I got the opportunity to try Rollei Cable Release for Nikon and it’s been a true pleasure! First of all, it’s very easy to learn, in case you have never used this type of remote shutter control, just follow the instructions in the detailed manual that comes along. I’ve already tried it several times on the field and it feels so good not having to use the timer in my iPhone anymore, finally I can concentrate on other things while the cable release snaps the photo for me after the time settings I have made.

What is a cable release good for?

It’s a indispensable when you wish to do long exposure that are longer than 30 sec (or whatever the maximum length is on your camera), time lapse photography, continuous shooting, macro photography, group photography etc… in other words, situations when you should avoid touching the camera in order to avoid vibrations.

I appreciate the size of it, not too small nor big (4×15.5 cm), very light to carry around (80g) and I let it rest on my filter bag that I have attached on my tripod when I’m using it. The cable release requires 2 AAA batteries which comes along in the box. As I usually take sunrise or sunset photos, I’m often in low light situations, then it’s very helpful with the backlighting of the display, which is very easy to read and set up. There is a timer control for the starting time, exposure time, intervall timer up to 100 hours in advance and an adjustable exposure time between 1 second up to 100 hours. There is also a sound signal, that you can choose to turn off if you wish or leave on. When you do continous shooting it can take up to 399 photos. In short it covers all my needs and even more!

Overall I’m very satisfied with Rollei Cable Release, only con I can find would be the fact that there is no on/off switch but it turns off when there is no activity.

Rollei Cable Releases exists for cameras from the brands Nikon, Canon and Sony. To find more detailed information about the cable release I would recommend you to have a look on Rollei’s website where you also can order it in their web shop.
