Today, Saturday was the 12th year “La Galette des Chefs, la Galette du Coeur” was held at Place de Saint-Germain-des-Prรจs. You’ve probably read my post last year, the Top Pastry Chefs in Paris donates a few of their Galette des Rois for charity, they are sold for 50 EUR + and you can also taste a slice from the gourmet gastronomic catering company Potel Et Chabot who organizes this event, for 5 EUR each. This year they didn’t have a giant Galette des Rois, instead the galettes were in smaller sizes with two different fillings, one with agrumes (citrus fruits) and the other one with the classic frangipane, an almond paste.

Parisbreakfast, was also there, none of us would miss this event, besides she was the one who introduced me to this event through her blog two years ago. What’s fun with this event is not only that you can buy a Galette des Rois or buy a slice to taste, but also to meet top Paris Pastry Chefs! I don’t know all of them, but I know they are all very talented and I really admire their work. This year I met Guillaume Gomez, who was entitled as Meilleur Ouvrier de France, when he was only 25 (beeing the youngest in history in the cuisine category)!! Very impressive….Now he works as Chef Cuisinier at Palais de l’Elysรฉe for the President of France.

Some of the Galette des Rois that were donated this year were from the following chefs: Pierre Gagnaire, Pierre Hermรฉ, Eric Kayser (Maison Kayser), Michel Rostang, Alain Dutournier, Guy Savoy, Guy Martin, Jacques Gรฉnin, lโ€™Hรดtel Meurice (Christophe Saintagne), Didier Coly (Costes), le Moulin de la Vierge, Potel et Chabot (Marc Riviรจre), Poilรขne, Hรฉlรจne Darroze, Saint Clair le Traiteur (Lionel Lallement), Fauchon (Patrick Pailler), Patrice Hardy, la Grande Epicerie (Jean-Jacques Massรฉ), la pรขtisserie Thoumieux, Gilles Marchal, William Ledeuil (Ze Kitchen Galerie) , la Closerie des Lilas, pรขtisserie Eugรจne (Paris 17), Benoรฎt Castel (Libertรฉ pรขtisserie)…I would love to taste all their galettes..but not sure how my waistline would look like afterwards…

Last year 9 600 EUR was collected for POIC (Pseudo Obstructions Intestinales Chroniques) and I hope they’ll beat that record this year ;-) Don’t miss this event next year!

This young cute guy was assisting slicing up the galettes from Potel et Chabot, a cup of hot chocolate gave him the energy to stand there during the three busy hours ;-)

If there is one thing the French know how to do best is pastry! A pleasure to look at and a delight to eat!
