Dinner at Hôtel Costes

Dinner at Hôtel Costes
Hôtel Costes, is a 5 star hotel and restaurant located on one of the most fashionable streets in the world, Rue Saint-Honoré, estabilished by the Costes brothers (Jean-Louis and Gilbert Costes) and decorated by the architect and interior designer Jacques Garcia. I’ve been to their cozy bar with fireplace several times having cocktails with friends but first time I had dinner there was a few weeks ago when my friend Jo’s brother and cousin were in town for a visit. It’s true we have our favourite places to dinner in Paris but there is always some room for new and unexplored restaurants so we reserved a table at Hôtel Costes.

Glam-chic atmosphere and sexy super model-looking waitresses, that are some of the synonymes of the restaurant for many…while poor service, overrated, average food belongs to the more negative comments from guests. However, as a 5 star hotel I must say I expected a smiling welcoming but the reception in our case was a bunch of high heeled girls having some kind of reunion chatting with each other without noticing guests were waiting. The hostesses seemed to be utterly bored and the girl that was supposed to take our coats was the most lamest girl I’ve ever met and so was the hostess that led us to our table. Their high heels and short revealing dresses didn’t make up to their lack of service, but I do know for some men it certainly would…

Luckily our waiter Billy managed to feel us welcome and brought back our smiles on our faces by giving us the best possible service ever. With his perfect English he translated the menu to my Jo’s brother and cousin and also shared some of his recommendations. Since I love duck there was no question about it, the Mandarina Crispy Duck was a clear choice for me. Before having our dishes we ordered a few cocktails. I was in the mood for something alcohol free and went for the sweet Pretty in Pink.

Dinner at Hôtel Costes La purée de pommes de terre, not a hit. Just like the mashed potatos I’ve had at their other restaurant La Sociéte, way TOO fluid.

My opinion after my first dinner there? Well, after the dinner when these photos were taken I’ve been there several times for dinner, which means I like the place. I do agree the food is pricey ( around 100€ for a dinner, drinks not included), but yet I found the food to be delicious and after all I love to spoil myself with dinners like this in company with good friends in a restaurant such as Costes with it’s intime ambiance, lovely décor and great lounge music.

The place is so pampering. When you see the set up, you will fall in love with the ambiance and I am sure the scent is also fantastic in the background. Moods will suddenly change when you are being served in a place like this…
