Les Cocottes restaurant in Paris

Les Cocottes restaurant in ParisLes Cocottes restaurant in Paris, that was where me and two of my French friends were having dinner last week. One of my friends is working for Alain Ducasse and the other one at the head office of Ladurée and together with me, the gourmet, you can imagine the standard we put on the food we eat ;-)

All of us had recieved recommendations for the restaurant Les Cocottes and I was curious to try it. It’s not possible to reserve a table but when we came around 8 pm it was crowded but luckily we had a table in just a couple of minutes.

As starters my friends had Œuf poché aux lardons croustillants, belle salade de roquette (poached egg with crispy bacon and rocket salad) while I had white asparagus with mayonnaise and rocket salad. It was not extraordinary though, I’ve had asparagus beeing prepared in a much better and tasty way than this one. As main dish one of my friends had sauté de veau à la tomate et au basilic, pommes rissolées (sautéed veal with tomato and basil, rissolées potatoes), jeunes légumes du moment cuisinés en cocotte (young seasonal vegetables cooked in the ‘cocotte’) and I had pavé de cabillaud laqué au miel, gingembre, fenouil et carotte à la coriandre (filet of cod with baby vegetables). Well…the sautéed veal my friend had was over done and dry (you can even see that on the photo below), my cod was a kind of dissapointment, I’ve had much better prepared cod, this one was a bit over cooked and so were the vegetables.

When it was time for ordering the dessert we decided to share gaufres à la chantilly avec caramel à la fleur de sel (waffles with chantilly cream and salty caramel sauce), a simple dessert that is kind of impossible to fail with. Usually I finish my dessert, but this time I only had two bites of the waffle….it was way too greasy and the whipped cream was too sweet and light in it’s texture. We had doubts that it was waffles and whipped cream fait maison but the server insisted that was the case. Strange, because it didn’t taste like if it was.

Well, it’s not a restaurant I will return to, but we all have different tastes and when I was there it was crowded so it seems that some people appreciate their food.
