Natalie Portman in the movie Black Swan

Last week I went and saw the psychological thriller Black Swan starring Vincent Cassel, Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. I completely loved the movie, it was sad and tragical yet beautiful in a special way.

Nina (Natalie Portman) gets the role as the White Swan and her twin, the darkly sensual Black Swan. First she’s claimed to lack the passion as the Black Swan possess but Thomas (the ballet director) sees her capacity for passion and she gets the role. And that’s where the nightmare begins for Nina…she’s obsessed of being perfect and it breaks her apart and slowly she displays a number of psychotic symptoms such as delusions and elaborate visual hallucinations. She get’s paranoid while trying to be perfect and Thomas tells her to stop  being a perfectionist and lose herself and let go.
But the pressure brings out a darker side of her and she hurts herself by scratching herself bloody with her nails and it becomes a habit and she has more and more delusions and hallucinations.

In the end, on the same evening as the performance of the Swan Lake she stabbed herself while having an hallucination…she continue her performance and in the end of the play when she jumps off the cliff she feels content. Laying down wounded and covered in blood she whispers “I felt it. Perfect. I was perfect”.

She had simply pushed her limits and lost herself on her way of being perfect and living up to the expectations of her surroundings.
