Vegan Lunch at Osteria Della Pagliazza in Florence

Osteria Della Pagliazza is a restaurant one of two restaurants at Hotel Brunelleschi in Florence, offering a Tuscan menu, serving both lunch and dinner.

Unlike Paris, it’s quite easy to find restaurants in Florence, but also in Italy in general, that have vegetarian or vegan options in their menu’s, even at finer luxury hotel such as Hotel Brunelleschi! In fact at Hotel Brunelleschi’s restaurants they also offer gluten-free cooking.

I was invitedΒ  for a vegan lunch at Osteria Della Pagliazza and as the sun was shining outside we chose to sit in the square where the restaurant have a few sets of tables, enjoying the beautiful Spring weather.

The chef, Giuseppe Bonadonna, came and presented himself and also explained the dishes we were about to have in the vegan menu. We started off with a delightful Jerusalem artichokes cream topped with confit cherry tomatoes and crispy polenta chips. The second starter was a corn mille-feuille with sauteed vegetables, rice cream and coriander. Very original and tasty! The third dish was a typical Tuscan tomato soup with basil and bread chips, very rich in taste and creamy texture. The main dish consisted of a fruit and vegetable bouquet with grilled tofu and vegan mayonnaise. Loved the combination of the sweetness of the fruits together with the vegetables, and the perfectly grilled tofu. Very fresh and healthy.

No lunch or dinner without a dessert! The homemade Italian almond cake with chocolate sauce which was a delightful treat. Thought that was the last dish, but actually there was some sweet strawberries coming up, and I got them to my room so I could enjoy them later :-)

I found the vegan lunch served at Osteria Della Pagliazza to be of very good quality with fresh ingredients. The location is very nice too, if the weather allows I would definitely recommend to enjoy the food in their charming courtyard. Otherwise indoors it’s very cozy too with the walls of the byzantine Pagliazzo Tower reminding of the past. The staff was very attentive and service minded, couldn’t have a better experience!
